Hi!
When creating layouts, do you prefer to use large or small photos? For me, it depends on the collection I’m working with. If the embellishments are large, I usually prefer to use larger photos. However, if the embellishments and paper designs are smaller, I can work with smaller photos or even a combination of different sizes. In my projects, you will usually find at least one large photo because documenting memories is the main reason I scrapbook, and I want the photos to be the focus of my layouts.
For the project I’m sharing today, I used two large photos along with the stunning Simple Vintage Sand & Sea collection by Simple Stories. The beautiful floral designs and elegant details in this collection made the creative process even easier. Let’s take a closer look at this layout, and I’ll tell you how it came together.

Since I wanted to add a little bit of ink to the background, I chose white cardstock as my base. Using Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass diluted with water, I added a soft hint of blue, focusing mostly on the upper right and bottom left corners of the page. Then, using gold paint, I added splatters to the same areas for a touch of shine.
To hold the photos in the center, I used a mix of patterned papers from the collection. I cut them in different sizes and directions to create more interest. I also distressed the edges of all the papers and tore the bottom edge of the woodgrain paper. These small details added texture to the layout and helped create the beautiful vintage look I wanted.
The photos were placed at different heights to make the composition more interesting. To embellish the layout, I used die cuts, rub-ons, foam stickers, decorative brads, and enamel dots. By combining these different products, I added a variety of textures and details, making the layout even more interesting.
I used the same types of embellishments throughout the layout to create clusters and maintain balance. You can find flowers, hearts, zig-zags, large paint splatters, and circles repeated in different areas of the page.
On the right side of the photo, I created a different cluster using a purse, a hat, and seashells.
At the end, I decided to tear the upper and lower edges of the white cardstock and back the layout with a navy patterned paper to give it a more elegant, finished look. Once it was ready, I added more embellishments to the upper left corner to create a floral triangle across the page.
I’m in love with this layout featuring my daughter and me. The colors in this collection are so beautiful, and they help the photos stand out on the page. If you enjoy watching process reels, visit my Instagram
