HBD! Layout

Hello! I usually scrapbook 12" x 12" layouts, but today I want to share with you an 8 1/2" x 11" layout I designed. The story behind this page is that I was invited to create a layout to be considered for the cover of the Spring/Summer 2024 issue of Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazine. I was thrilled with the invitation and couldn't decide what products to use, so I made two different layouts. This is the first one I designed, but not the one I submitted. Since I didn't use it, I made a few changes to repurpose this page because I love it and don't want to waste the products. I changed the photo, the journaling, and the title to document a photo of my daughter who recently had her birthday!

To create this layout, I used the gorgeous Flea Market collection by Simple Stories. It was a collection from last year and I love how cute it is with those florals and beautiful colors. For the background, I choose a busy pattern, then added a Flamingo Color Vibe cardstock to it to create some contrast. On top of that cardstock, I added a white cardstock to hold the other pieces of patterned papers and the photo.

I matted the photo with another busy patterned paper. I used the 6" x 8" pad to have smaller designs that can be seen. Then, to add some contrast between the photo and the white cardstock, I added a piece of the green plaid paper, also from the 6" x 8" pad. For the title, I used the "HBD!" foam sticker from an old Simple Stories collection called Magical Birthday. It has a gold foil detail around the letters, giving the layout a happier look, perfect for the occasion.

To finished with the patterned papers, I added two scalloped borders to the layout. One on the top of the Flamingo cardstock and another on the bottom, and on the left side I added two tags from the tags paper. I reduced them a little to balance the layout accordingly with its size. After that, I stitched a border around the page and was ready to embellish using the florals die cuts from the collection. I mixed different flowers and leaves, and added a few heart foam stickers, flowers, and hearts from the sticker book, decorative brads, and enamel dots.

I repeated the same on the lower corner near the title.

This is the finished layout. It was fun working with a different size. This layout was quick to make since the photo is 5" x7" and the amount of space available to embellish is limited. I'm considering doing this size of layout more often, when I only have a few photos of an event or don't want to have too much space to decorate.

Thank you so much for your visit. I hope you like and enjoy this layout, and it inspires you to craft! Come back soon for more inspiration!
